Rodeo Austin runs March 12 through 27, 2027 at the Travis County Expo Center, with the ProRodeo and concerts in Luedecke Arena and a full fair and carnival around it.
The Expo Center is out on Decker Lane in east Austin, roughly fifteen miles from downtown. It is not near a rail line and it is not walkable from anything, so every person there arrived in a vehicle.
The first week overlaps SXSW, and that combination is worth understanding before you plan a night out there.
Getting there, and getting out
It is further out than people expect
Travis County Expo Center sits on Decker Lane in east Austin, about fifteen miles from downtown. There is no rail service and nothing within walking distance. Every arrival is a vehicle arrival, which is why the approach roads matter more here than at a downtown venue.
The SXSW overlap is the thing to plan around
March 12 through 18 in 2027 is both Rodeo Austin and SXSW. Downtown is at its densest of the entire year while the Expo Center pulls its own crowd to the opposite side of town. Any trip that crosses between those two poles on those days is the worst version of that trip, and it is the week to build in real margin.
Getting a ride back is harder than getting there
In our experience, rideshare supply on the east side thins out noticeably late at night, and the Expo Center is well outside the areas where drivers cluster. Arriving is rarely the problem. Leaving at eleven with tired kids is where people end up waiting.
It is a long night with gear
Rodeo plus carnival plus fair food is a multi-hour outing, and families leave with more than they arrived with. A vehicle that waits is worth more here than at a venue where you could reasonably walk to a bar and reassess.
Groups and corporate nights
Rodeo Austin is a common corporate outing, and the Expo Center distance makes a single Sprinter simpler than a convoy of cars that lose each other on Decker Lane. Hourly service also covers the fact that nobody knows exactly when they will want to leave.
